What We Do

Current Projects

CLINTON HEALTH ACCESS INITIATIVE

Diarrhoea causes 4% of all deaths world-wide. In India alone, around 1,00,000 children, under the age of 11 months die of diarrhoea annually. Taking this into consideration, FEED works in collaboration with CHAI (a global health organization committed to strengthening health systems around the world), since the year 2012 to prevent the occurrence of diarrhoea, making substantial efforts in this direction by providing support such as making ORS (Oral Rehydration Salts) available to children.

OXFAM INDIA

Zardozi, an elaborate style of magnificent hand-embroidery in India finds mention even in the Vedic period. It involves long, laborious hours of skilled Zari artisans to create beautiful designs. Lucknow is home to exquisite Zari work with experienced artisans struggling here. Many of these are hardly able to make a decent living. FEED in collaboration with OXFAM (a global organization fighting poverty and injustice), works for their overall empowerment by providing them with skill-based training and knowledge of modern technology to keep the valuable art alive and help them earn a decent livelihood. FEED is working with OXFAM since 2014, battling for the rights of these artisans and also helping them in earning a justified amount for their work. Our organization is working for their overall empowerment by providing them with skill based training and making their children competent with modern technology by the knowledge of computers.

Programmes

EDUCATION OF UNDERPRIVILEGED CHILDREN

Education is central to socio-economic development of any country. It is a remedy for all social evils and discriminations prevalent in our society. Despite various government initiatives, like the Right to Education (RTE), many children still remain out of school. We at FEED, recognize the immediate need to work on the short-comings of the educational system to achieve maximum impact, that all children, irrespective of the gender and background, have equal access to quality education. We too, believe in Education for all. In this context, we have trained several SMCs in government schools to work towards the cause.

GIRL CHILD EDUCATION

Discrimination against education of girls is a common practice in our country. We believe that education is critical for empowerment of women in India. We at FEED, focus primarily on ‘Girl Education’, undertaking the education of underprivileged girls by acting as a ‘positive pressure group’ and a bridge between the families of the beneficiaries and the government. We make efforts to sponsor the tuition fees of these girls and facilitation of the implementation of various Central and State government schemes for girls’ education.

WOMEN EMPOWERMENT

Women empowerment is an ambition for us, deserving a specific focus. It calls for addressing the root cause of inequalities and making mainstream efforts to promote gender-equality and working dedicatedly towards empowering women. We aim to enable them to develop control over their lives and the ability to take up the role of decision-making and meaningful participation of women in economic, social & political structures.

HEALTH CAMPS

FEED frequently organizes health camps to disseminate information about hygiene and preventive health care, create awareness about reproductive health among adolescent girls through qualified gynaecologists and raise consciousness about eye care, diabetes, antenatal care, and sexually transmitted diseases through various activities.

NETWORKING AND ADVOCACY

FEED coordinates with various organizations to devise effective solutions for issues concerning youth, children and women through advocacy and support. Through networking and coordination with various NGOs and the government we aim to raise the issues on a larger forum to bring about relevant policy interventions.

ORGANIZING WORKSHOPS AND SEMINARS

Since its inception, FEED has organized various seminars and workshops on different issues of common public concern. These bring together all the concerned persons on a common platform. Some of the seminars in the recent past focused on the role of education and minorities. While some emphasized on communal harmony, others were based on social evils like human trafficking and the dissemination of HIV positive people.

PROMOTING COMMUNAL HARMONY

It is an age old tradition of our country to have mutual tolerance and respect for each other’s religion and culture. Whereas the vested interest of some people evokes serious disharmony, illiteracy and ignorance among people and the lack of political will further adds to the problem resulting in often flaring up communal riots. The suggested mechanism for its remedy as offered by FEED is to sensitize the masses about creating and maintaining communal harmony which is necessary for the nation to progress and develop.

MINORITY ISSUES
FEED helps the minorities in many different ways –

• It helps to increase the literacy rate among minorities by supporting formal education of children and non- formal adult education.
• It develops and executes skill development and economic development integrated programs.
• It coordinates with other NGO’s in the Minorities Development Programme.
• It helps the willing individuals and organizations interested in sponsoring the needy minority children by identifying and facilitating the process.
• It supports general and state government in implementing its program for the development of minorities.
• It offers to work with Muslim clergies in promoting modern education among Muslim masses.
• It helps to provide health services to minorities with the support of government or any organization.

AWARENESS GENERATION

The marginalized community residing in slum areas and remote parts of rural areas are ignorant about their rights, needs, facilities and other welfare activities. Generating awareness about all the relevant issues like adolescent health, nutrition of expecting/ lactating mothers and young children, hygiene and preventable diseases among children. FEED has organized several mass awareness generation programs which are based on preventive as well as promotive health care contents and revolve around the nutritional and hygiene issues. Awareness generation programs for HIV/ AIDS is organized among different hubs of the population especially the vulnerable sections of the society so that they can understand the disease better and get some basic information about its management and prevention. The suggested mechanism for its remedy as offered by FEED is to sensitize the masses bout creating and maintaining communal harmony which is necessary for the nation to progress and develop.
